The following was transcribed directly from Rowan’s mouth regarding our recent stay on the island of Vieques, where the world’s brightest biolumescent bay is. Enjoy!
Bioluminescence is little single celled organisms that, when disturbed, glow. They are actually little dinoflatulence (dinoflagellates 😂) and the water there is actually 7% more salty than the ocean. Recently we went to the world’s brightest bioluminescent bay in see through canoes. If you look up and down it looks like you’re in the void. (Minecraft joke!) It was really fun going because bioluminescence is kind of rare. There are only a couple bays that are bioluminescent in the world. That was our second bioluminescent bay we’ve ever gone to. We went to it in Vieques. It was really cool!
In some parts of the world in the oceans there sometimes is bioluminescence. Something on my bucket list is that I want to see dolphins in bioluminescence. There’s a lot of weird creatures that use bioluminescence. The main reason things use bioluminescence is that if something is trying to eat them, they light up and attract other fish to eat those fish, like a burglar alarm. 🚨
It was a tour that we went on but the bad part about it was that it cost THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS! Otherwise I really liked it.
